Ever since I saw my very first Machete in the early nineties I knew it was only a matter of time before I would have one. Well ten years and a thousand guitars later I had the privilege of meeting Mr. Dave Wintz thru my travels with my band Choke. From that point on my relationship with the guitar was fortified.  I called Dave one day out of the blue, curious to see how I would go about getting one of these monster's made for me. I must admit he was really receptive and genuinely interested in making a custom instrument for me. We talked for what seemed like and hour. I was worried if would be able to make the guitar so that it wouldn't have to be modified later cause of our tuning
(b,f#,b,e#,g#,c#) and our string gauge (13-65). He told me it would be no problem, he said he would even custom file my nut personally . So he invited our band to visit the shop and see for ourselves how it is done. Since we were playing there the next week we set a date. We arrived, toured the factory, then it was time. Time to place the order.....which was quite a difficult task after seeing the variety of instruments that man can make.   I stuck to my guns and got a custom Machete w/a swamp ash body, maple set neck, ebony fretboard, tune-o-matic bridge w/fine tuner tailpiece, locking Sperzels, two humbucker set up (Muy grande-bridge, tall boy-neck) both are splitable, one volume (push pull), one tone (pushpull) and a pickup fader instead of the standard switch, which makes for some remarkably sweet clean tones. The finish is black and the headstock is painted also but, I had him not paint the back of the neck ,, just seal it with a wood sealer.

I have never been so happy in all of my 12 yrs of playing guitar. The instrument is of the finest possible quality and workmanship, and is comfortable to play. But the true diamond in the rough is the Rio Grande pickups they are loaded with. Being a true pickup freak I was skeptical, at the time I was a die hard EMG 81 man. But now I am in the process of putting them in every guitar I own. I give this instrument 5 stars in every category. I wouldn't sell it for a million dollars....well maybe a million. Thanks Dave for making me a great instrument....long live Robin Guitars.

hey i just wanted to thank you guys for making a great guitar because i got a one of the Rangers and it was used but all i did was play it once and went to all my friends and all my family and even dipped out of my own pocket to get it and its the only guitar that the other guys in my band let me practice or record with because it sounds so good and so what if it is a punk/ska band because i play a lot of blues too and it covers that and everything in between I even helped out my friends metal band with it so when i get enough money you can expect to have me getting another i cant put the damn thing down....i gotta go play now

Very happy and impressed

" I wanted to write you all to thank you for building the best guitar I have ever laid my hands on. I have a custom Medley. The tag says Medley VI Standard but there is nothing standard about this guitar. From the blue wave paint on the body to the Dolphin inlays, to the Seymore Duncan pickups, this guitar ROCKS! My poor Strat just sits now collecting dust. Not only is this a beautiful guitar to look at but it plays like a
dream. It has elevated my level of play to a new "standard" so maybe that is why you all call it a standard. Or maybe it is because you are setting the standard in guitar building. Thanks for making this guitarist sound so much better. Keep up the good work. "

Sincerely,

RE: Custom Shop Machete

Dear Robin Guitars:
I got the guitar this evening (Wednesday) and can barely put it down long enough to write this letter! It arrived about 6PM (UPS delivers to residential areas last) and my fingers were sore by 8.

The guitar is beautiful, and exceeded my expectations. Whoever did the setup should get a raise, because it is EXACTLY suited for my style, and the intonation is absolutely perfect (I am VERY picky about intonation). I am impressed with the sound in general, and wonder what pickup is in it? I am guessing it is a Barbecue Bucker.

It is hard to compare one guitar to another sometimes, but in this case I have to: In the early 80's I had a custom made Dean guitar which I worked 6 months to pay for. It was handmade by Dean Zelinsky himself, who had also made guitars for ZZ Tops and Kerry Livgren from Kansas (who owns a Dean Cadillac with serial number 1). My Dean was as close to a perfect sound as I could have imagined, rich with harmonics and sustain. The Dean was stolen in 1991, and since Dean had sold out to the Japanese I could not get a replacement. The guitar you sent me feels a bit different, but sounds EXACTLY like my Dean!

The pickup has fantastic definition, and it is truthfully hard to tell that it is not an EMG active pickup. I can sense no magnetic string pull (like one would find on a Seymour Duncan Invader) yet it is HOT and overdrives my preamp with ease! The sustain is as good as or better than my Les Paul with PAF pickups. Your pickup is full of INCREDIBLE harmonics, and the guitar begs to feed back naturally on the harmonic of sustained notes.

In short, thank you for giving me back the sound I have missed sinced 1991. Also, the guitar looks nicer than my Dean! :)

Hey, i picked up a used Robin guitar from a local music store a few months ago. It has a Medley body, see though blue finish, split headstock, birdseye maple fretboard, Floyd Rose licensced tremelo, and a pop out tone control. I just wanted to say its a hella kick ass guitar, i hella love it, it has good sustain, sweet clean sound, and its stays in tune hella good. My friends just love it. Maybe one day my name Might be on your Artist's list. Thanks for such a great guitar. :-)

A very satisfied musician,

Zack Rosa

RE: Medley Exotic Top, bought USED.

Features: 8
Made in USA. The top is green quilted maple with a white binding around the body. It has a  Seymour Duncan Hot Rail in the neck and a Seymour Duncan JB in the bridge with a 3-way  selector. The body style is close to a strat but smaller with a Floyd Rose style bridge.

The neck is made to Fender scale with 24 frets and by Gibson standards is thin and wide. Reversed headstock with dot inlays on a rosewood fretboard with maple neck. Came with a hard case.

Sound: 10
I've let bandmates, friends, and club sound guys jam on my Robin. In exchange I'll play
on their Custom Shop Les Pauls, Strats, Ibenez, whatever. Bottom line is that after  they've played it they want one. The JB pickup is very balanced sounding from low to high E. It screams when the gain is cranked with a solid, tight low end. But, unlike most
high gain pickups, it never gets too brittle sounding when you switch to clean. The Hot Rail neck pickup is a great comprimise between a single coil and a full blown humbucker. It's a mini humbucker that fits in a single coil slot. I never use to use the neck position much until I bought this guitar. Now I use it all the time. It won't clean up quite as nicely as a Strat. But, it covers all other sonic areas quite well.

Action, Fit, & Finish: 10
It use to cut out on me once in a while in the middle of a gig. So, I went inside a taped
off any exposed wire that I saw. After that, no problems. Fit and finish is a 10 otherwise.
The action is a pleasent suprise and there were no flaws that I noticed at the time of purchase 3 years ago.

Reliability/Durability: 10
This guitar has been through almost 90 gigs and countless pratices. It fell of it locking straps and bounced off the floor twice and still made it the rest of the night. I would never play any gig without a backup but, my backup guitars never get touched. I finally started feeling so bad about it that I sold them and bought a steinberger. Maybe it will be able to compete.

Customer Support: N/A
I called the company once and asked to take a tour of the factory. They said that they don't actually give tours but would be happy to give me a personal one if I'd like.  How cool was that! Very nice people.

Overall Rating: 10
I've been playing for 12 years. I've used this guitar along with my Hughes & Kettner Attax 200 in original bands and cover bands. For original music you need your own personal sound and in a cover band you must do your best to sound like the artist who's tune you're playing. The Robin did a great job. And to think, a person can pick up a $1800.00 plank like this used for $599.00!

RE: Tedley Standard II

Features: 10
my robin tedley features a transparent white body and a honey colored neck w/ a rosewood fretboard. 22 frets volume and tone control two rio grande p/u's (which are hand wound at the robin factory) the tedley is basically a sleeker version of the telecaster. i love the looks and balance of the bodystyle. the contemporary shape of the tele with a reverse headstock..........gotta love it! its got a kahler liscensed by floyd style tremelo(which i never use.........dont even have the bar!) sperzel tuners and jumbo frets.

Sound: 10
the sound is fat but not flubby when plugged in. when strummed unplugged it has a nice percussive sound. lots of resonance.

Action, Fit, & Finish: 10
the guitar came from adjusted perfectly!

Reliability/Durability: 10
the tedley has survived three solid years of regional touring with a rock band! the finish
which was once pearl white now has a nice yellow to it. plenty of dings.......but it still shines under the lights

Customer Support: 10
i have become friends with the owner of robin and have visited the factory many times. i am always treated with great respect. for this eternally grateful! i never asked about a warranty. whenever i have had a problem they have taken CARE OF IT WITHOUT DELAY!

Overall Rating: 10
I PLAY THRU A MESA DUAL RECTIFIER AND A RIVERA KNUCLEHEAD WITH MESA RECTO CABNINETS. ONE CABLE STRAIGHT IN...........JUST THE GUITAR AND THE AMPS.
I HAVE PLAYED MANY OTHER GUITARS THRU MY SETUP.FOR ME, NOTHING COMPARES TO THE SOUND, LOOKS, PERFORMANCE, AND RELIABILITY OF MY GUITAR(S) I ONLY WISH I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT IT WITH A STOP TAILPIECE. ME AND FLOYD JUST DONT GET ALONG VERY WELL!IF IT WERE LOST OR STOLEN I WOULD CERTINLY BUY ANOTHER.

Robin Ranger deluxe

I picked up my Robin used from a friend who had picked it up used as well. I thought this would be the perfect project guitar to customize. I wanted a guitar to back-up my Strat as I play in a 50's rockabilly band, but the tone and versatility my Ranger has, made customizing it unnecessary. All I ended up doing to it was adding dice knobs to the controls. I sincerely suggest to anyone who enjoys playing a guitar that's not stamped out with a cookie cutter to check out Robin. And if you are lucky enough to find one used, grab it up quick!

Use my address if you wish and keep up the great work.

I'VE HAD MY ROBIN FOR ABOUT 13 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER PLAYED A BETTER GUITAR. I TRADED MY 1963 ES PAUL STANDARD FOR IT. EVERYBODY I KNOW THOUGHT I WAS CRAZY , THAT IS UNTIL THEY PLAYED IT! NOW WHEN WE HAVE A JAM ,I HAVE A HARD TIME GETTING TO PLAY MY OWN GUITAR , AND THAT IS A PROBLEM. SINCE I'VE HAD MY ROBIN I AM VERY SPOILED, NOTHING ,AND I MEAN NOTHING PLAYS AND SOUNDS LIKE THIS GUITAR!!  THE ONLY PROBLEM IS, I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT. IT LOOKS LIKE A RED MEDLEY II WITHOUT THE FLOYD ROSE BRIDGE.IT HAS A SOLID MAPLE NECK LIKE THE MEDLEY IV.

IN 1993 MY PARENTS WERE MANAGING A RESORT IN SO.TAHOE.   THE APARTMENT THAT THEY LIVED IN CAUGHT FIRE AND BURNED TO THE GROUND.  WHILE RUMMAGING THROUGH THE MESS , I FOUND THAT I HAD LEFT MY ROBIN AT THEIR APARTMENT THE NIGHT BEFORE.  LUCKILY I HAD PUT IT UNDER THE BED. WHEN I PULLED IT OUT OF THE CASE I ALMOST BROKE INTO TEARS , IT WAS SOLID BLACK , I THOUGHT IT WAS DESTROYED. TO MY SUPPRISE , I CLEANED IT UP AND STARTED TO PLAY IT. IT WAS STILL IN TUNE AND THE NECK DID NOT EVEN MOVE. I WAS IMPRESSED!!! THE FIRE DEPARTMENT SAID THE HEAT IN THE BUILDING WAS IN EXCESS OF 1200deg. THE ONLY DAMAGE I FOUND WAS IN ONE PICK-UP AND THAT WAS NOT THE ORIGINAL. YOU MUST BE VERY PROUD OF YOUR PRODUCT. .THANK YOU FOR BUILDING SUCH A WONDERFUL GUITAR
AND PLEASE KEEP IT UP.

THANK YOU
JR, DAYTON , NV.
